Solve problems in U.S., not problems in Iraq
I am having a difficult time understanding the mentality of our government leaders. At a time when our economy and labor market is in one of the worst conditions it's been in decades, the Bush administration has been more concerned with the welfare of Iraq than that of the United States.
More money is being pumped into that country to help rebuild it, after we destroyed it, than in addressing the job shortage in our own country. President Bush keeps our attention on the threat of terrorist attacks so that we don't focus on the real issues we face everyday: lack of jobs, rising gasoline prices, lack of funding for education, health care and the like.
I wonder what it will take for the American people to realize that the war is not in Iraq, but right here inside our own borders. I for one am tired of seeing our troops being sacrificed to defend a country that does not want us there, and the billions of dollars being siphoned from our country to fix that country.
I am tired of hearing our leader tell the world that ``we'' will continue to send our troops to fight for the democracy of Iraq. It is very easy when your own son or daughter is not one of the ``we.''

It may be time for new Iraq plan
One of the endearing qualities of Americans is that they're willing to try things. When those things don't work out, they just try something else. They do not fear failure.
There has never been a better time to take advantage of this quality. By now it is obvious to all that the Iraqi people do not want to be liberated by Americans.
Nobody is more surprised than the White House, which based its military plan on the belief that anyone living under a dictator would welcome the arrival of liberators from a country that many believe is the best country in the world.
It is by now also obvious that the White House has no idea where to go from here. Therefore, all of us are in a position to help. Send a letter to the president, and let him know that the truly American thing to do is to try something else.
The first step would be to call off the war. It simply isn't working.
