Mary, you might want ot do a Google on madrassas and then search within results for curriculum.

Tom Friedman some years ago did considerable research on madrassas, including visiting madrassas in various countries, and wrote a book about the islamists' ventures.

The problem for us, and the major part of the Muslim world, is that madrassas teach a curriculum which is about 1000 years out of date. The basic curriculum position is to teach a belief in the superiority of faith and rulers over reason and self rule. Thus science and critical thinking have negative value in this scheme. This is a position which was totally out of date in Europe by 1600.

Madrassas are producing millions of losers who are vulnerable to various shades of fascism dressed up in religous language.

The implications, and the results so far, are not good.

BTW, the number of madrassas in Pakistan is not 1,000 but around 10,000.

You might want ot do a search on Salafism, as well.

If the madrassas throughout the world had not had billions of dollars thrown at them by Saudi extremists, this would not be the serious problem it has become.
