Quote from the Dow Jones News Release:

"Corel will spend more of its research and development funds on Java, Cowpland said. The annual research budget of about C$80 million (US $57.6 million) won't increase, but Cowpland expects Java to account for 50% of the budget, up from about 30% now"

-------------------

If this is the case, then R&D expenses for Q3 and Q4 should be dramatically lower than the first half of this year. The lower expense would give a boost to second half earnings compared to what analysts are projecting.

For the six months ending May 31/97, R&D expenditures stand at US$41.1 million. That leaves US$16.5 million in the total R&D budget for Q3 and Q4.

The analysts are basing projections on US$20 million R&D per quarter.
