Shawn, I beleive you will have a long wait for that first big Java application that will run on both your Sparc and your PC. It also will almost certainly NOT contain 100% identical code on both machines. Even so, I bought SUNW today. Sun's future is not tied to Java. Java is noise that they make to confuse Bill Gates. Sun is selling a lot of servers. They are going to continue to sell a lot of servers. Wintel continues to be not acceptable for running large web sites, etc.
