Accidently found this thread while surfing the boards...thanks to the moderator who makes it safe to post whatever questions people are having.

I have a Thinkpad T30 with XP Pro...I too have experienced a problem after installing updates a few months ago and didn't know that they could be related to the updates...this thread helped me realize this...thanks much...

Questions...somehow, although I am the only user and designated myself as "administrator"...upon startup, I recently started getting the "please put in your password" which I never enabled because I wanted as fast a startup as possible when I'm home and only enable the startup password when travelling...how do I get rid of this?

Second question...how long does it take you folks with XP Pro to boot up?....I've noticed it takes at least 4-5 minutes from the time I press the power on key...seems excessive, and I don't remember this being a problem when I first bought this laptop last year...

I've updated my bio's I've removed some of the "startup" shortcuts(as advised by IBM) I have a 1.9 gigahertz processor, 256 RAM, and 60% free hard drive disc space after removing some programs I rarely used and removing a load of pictures...I've defragged...yet still slow in boot up...

Any help would be much appreciated...
