Mr Vehlow was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the company in March 2003 and is based in Metal Storm’s US office in Arlington, Virginia. He first joined the company in April 2002 in the role of Chief Corporate Officer. Mr Vehlow has extensive senior experience in both early stage and established business environments and a strong track record in progressing and finalising defence-related technology licensing agreements, procurement contracts and mergers and acquisitions.

From 1998 to 2000 Mr Vehlow was Vice President and General Manager for Boeing Helicopter Division. Prior to this he held the position for eight years as Vice President of McDonnell-Douglas’ Apache Program for the US Army, which resulted in the current AH-64D Longbow Apache remanufacture production program. Mr Vehlow also served as Director of Customer Support at McDonnell-Douglas from 1988 to 1991. Mr Vehlow is a member of the US Secretary of the Army’s advisory Army Science Board (ASB).

MESA, Ariz., Sept. 23, 1996 -- Charles A. Vehlow has been named general manager of Apache programs at McDonnell Douglas Helicopter Systems.

Vehlow, 50, formerly director of AH-64D Longbow Apache and AH-64 derivative programs since 1991, now is responsible for the management of all domestic and international Apache programs for the Mesa, Ariz., component of McDonnell Douglas Corp. He assumes responsibility for Apache production programs from Ervin J. Hunter, vice president of production aircraft, who is concentrating his efforts on the company's growing family of light single- and twin-turbine civil and military helicopters.

The AH-64D Longbow Apache, the newest version of the combat-proven AH-64A Apache, is the world's most advanced multi-mission combat helicopter. More than 900 Apaches are in service with the U.S. Army and five international defense forces.

Vehlow is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., where he earned a bachelor's degree in general engineering, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., where he received his master's degree in aeronautical engineering.

He reached the rank of colonel in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves during a 28-year career that included three years as an associate professor at West Point.

Vehlow is an experienced helicopter and fixed-wing pilot.
