LAS VEGAS, NAB Booth SU 8058, April 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Accom® (ACMM.PK) a leader in broadcast and professional video products, revealed today at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention, it's path to a tapeless high definition editing and production environment with a new universal-format technology demonstration of the Abekas® 6000 Production Server. Designed to bring the creative and cost benefits of tapeless workflow to high definition production, the universal-format Abekas 6000 Production Server will allow facilities to migrate existing tapeless production models from their standard-definition productions, and move up to high-definition without the high costs associated with taped production in HD. The Abekas 6000's combination of uncompromised eight-channel performance, class-leading flexibility and fail-safe operation has established it at the core of tapeless production operations worldwide, at facilities including Fox Networks Engineering & Operations, Turner Studios, Ascent Media Group (London Playout Centre) and Shanghai-based Oriental Television.
Accom's universal-format Abekas 6000 will also be able to accommodate mixed production environments by supporting all commonly-used standard- definition or high-definition formats to meet production requirements. Users will be able to mix and match standard and high-definition formats in the same server. Each Abekas 6000 server will support up to four high-definition channels, or eight channels of standard definition.
Using I-Frame compression for frame-accurate editing in linear and non-linear environments, the universal format Abekas 6000 will remain a true production server, with identical functionality and operation in all formats for a consistent user experience, regardless of the choice of format.
"Tapeless production in standard definition is now becoming very widespread, with all the cost benefits and creative advantages it provides," said Accom Chairman and CEO Junaid Sheikh. "It's important for facilities to have a viable way of carrying these benefits with them as they begin to move into high-definition production, especially because tape operation in HD is so costly. With our universal-format development of the Abekas 6000, we are introducing a high-quality, cost-effective way for facilities to take the transition in their stride without making compromises to the way they work."
As part of the continuing development of the Abekas 6000, Accom introduced version 4.5.0 of the operating software at NAB 2004, adding many new features and enhancements. These include expanded networking capabilities with the addition of a Gigabit Ethernet option, and a Fibre Channel option with increased transfer speeds. Other developments include an updated Content Management Panel application with a new Virtual Control Panel (VCP), allowing any networked PC or Macintosh full transport control of clips on the server as well as browse and clip management facilities, and enhanced live sports operations with "Jump to Time of Day" timecode feature.
Accom's universal-format Abekas 6000 will be available for sale in the fourth quarter of 2004. Existing customers will be able to upgrade their systems easily through board exchange.
