"I think this movement started out as support for autonomy in Judea, not for the full fledged uprising. That was a later development when circumstances got out of control, as circumstances are wont to do."

"I heard of it in lectures about the transformation of Judaism from a central priestly organization to a decentralized rabbi based organization. This happened at the time of the destruction of the second temple."

It's obvious that a change in Judaism was necessary after the destruction of the temple. What is not so obvious is your contention that Christianity started as a political rather than a spiritual movement. I am merely asking for some evidence beyond assertion for this view.

<<<what we know about Jesus ...>>>
"I should point out that this discussion did not depend upon whether there was a single Jesus, or if the Jesus movement was based on a composite of John the Baptist and other people of the time."

This is clearly a non-starter from an historical perspective. Paul's earliest writings make it clear that Christianity was about the man Jesus, who is the Messiah, and that He died and rose again from the dead according to the (Jewish) scripture. He boldly asserts that if this is not true then Christianity is worthless and should not be given any further attention, and that no one should listen to anything that he, or any of the Apostles had to say. (1 Corinthians 15:)
