Catching up on posts and thought some might find this interesting. Last week I purchased a Pioneer DVR-510H. It has an 80GB HHD and Guide+. I bought it to transfer open reel tapes to a DVD-R as well as transfer 8MM and digital 8 video onto DVD-R for posterity. I've not yet attempted to use the Guide+ but will post an opinion once I've done so for awhile. I think my main point is that some of Pioneer's models contain an HDD, which seems to be as effective as TIVO, maybe better. I've not attempted to save TV pgms yet(too busy transferring music first), but using Guide+ I'll be able to walk away and record either temporary or permanent (DVD-R) and in the meanwhile am not paying anything to TIVO for a basic or enhanced service. Nor did I appear to pay for TIVO technology in the up front purchase price of the machine.
