You are ten years late with your information. Thousands of Iraqis were already dying. Thousands did die in the uprising inspired then abandoned by Bush the first.

The neocons carried over from their days of flirtation with Trotsky the notion of critical support. At it's simplest, this is a process of creating chaos and mistakes into established procedures and institutions. (This is the critical as in mean mouthing part). The reason is that they are ready to replace the procedures and people with their own (this is the support half of the tactic).

Much of this war is just a neocon "critical support" effort to create chaos in the pentagon, department of defense, any department that contributes to the homeland security, the fbi, and many many organizations and institutions from NASA to HUD. The neocons will propose solutions for this chaos, solutions that are drastic and different with the emphasis on different. The goal is to appoint the people in the changed organization, write the procedures with neocon ideologs, and shape the culture of the institution such that neocons will have the inside track and knowledge to shape and control the process for a generation to come.

The only trouble is you dudes bit off more chaos than you could reorganize and now the war in Iraq, the war on terror, the economy, the deficit and American culture are all disintigrating at the same time. The neocon cabel will go down as the worst group with the worst ideas in this country's history.
