Hate speech- that's a toughy. Too much regulation, and you squash free speech- too little, and you allow groups to organize around violent principles, and some of those groups will, no doubt, be prompted to get active. Do we act preemptively on domestic terrorists as well as on terrorists from other countries? How preemptive do we get- that's really the question, isn't it?

Found an old article on hate speech in Europe- seems to me they've gone a bit over the top on the issue, and are too restrictive, but then they have some compelling history to deal with, that no doubt makes them much more sensitive to this issue.

I don't know where the right balance is, or if there is one. Maybe it's a shifting target- but I think we have to keep trying.
