it doesn't follow that if you have a pre-nup you file separate tax returns. it doesn't follow that if you file separate tax returns, the wife of the pol doesn't disclose hers. many don't get in to high level positions because they don't want the scrutiny. it has gotten to the point (rightly or wrongly) that financial, health, divorce records are disclosed if you want a cabinet position or supreme court judgeship or to be prez or other high positions.
