Leading Paper Company Extends Contract with Infonet Across 80 Worldwide Sites

EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 20, 2004--Infonet Services Corporation (NYSE:IN), a leading provider of global communications services for multinationals, today announced that UPM, one of the world's leading producers of printing papers, has agreed to a three year extension on its contract for managed network services with Infonet.
UPM had a turnover of more than EUR 10 billion in 2003 and employs 35,000 people worldwide. With production facilities in 16 countries and an extensive sales and distribution network comprising over 170 companies, UPM's businesses focus on magazine papers, newsprint, fine and speciality papers, converting materials, and wood products.

In its continuing effort to optimize the operational and economic efficiency of its global network, UPM is in the process of integrating its enterprise resource planning (ERP), supply chain management (SCM) and customer resource management (CRM) e-business applications worldwide. As part of this process the company continues to move towards consolidating its global communications providers.

UPM's expanded contract extension with Infonet now covers more than 80 of the company's production plants and sales offices in Finland, Germany, the UK, France, the U.S. and Singapore. In addition to connecting these global UPM sites in Europe, Asia and North America, Infonet is also managing UPM's in-country networks in Germany and France, covering more than 30 sites.

"After 13 years of cooperation, we continue to look to Infonet as a key partner for the secure management of our global network," said Juha Kiiski, manager, data communication, UPM. "Over the years, we have been particularly impressed by Infonet's ability to adapt our network to changing business concerns. We trust their expertise and their vision, and look for them to continue to play an important role in shaping our communications network."

"Nowadays, multinationals seek both efficiency and consistency from their global communications provider," said Esko Uski, managing director, Infonet Finland. "As UPM's partner, we are pleased to be able to offer the company both a strong partnership and the type of value added network services that will support their business goals well into the future."
