Mike, the sad fact is that sooner or later one of these mass events will occur. I suspect the terrorists' tactics are to plan as many as possible, anticipate that many will not be successful, but expect results on the odd one that will slip through the security net. This is borne out by the sheer number of the aborted attempts. What is new is that their planned scope seems to be increasing.

Thus far, most of them seem directed at Europe, Jordan, and Israel while we appear to be presently immune. This state of affairs will not continue.

I had an interesting discussion with JohnM some time ago concerning the idea that terrorism like this was a signal that Islamofascism was on the wane. A scholar's idea that such was the case--and my retort that the notion was ridiculous--was the basis of the discussion. I now hope that I was wrong.
