The problem with all these "errors" is that it is hard to believe they are made in good faith. After all, the author has all the time he needs to make sure that the information is correct, corroborated, etc. The manner in which these alleged "errors" are made allows for the damage to be done. As a result, the public is imprinted with the erroneous information. Very few people pay attention to the subsequent errata. Thus, the damage gets done, but the author can technically point to his statement admitting to errors.

I hate to sound so conspiratorially-minded, but it's hard to discern much honesty when people are peddling books. McCain last night on Charlie Rose was a refreshing exception. There's a guy who I can see as President, a Sunbelt Rockefeller Republican, the last of a dying breed.

I think the public is becoming more and more sophisticated concerning the dishonest manner in which information is being to fed to it. I hope so.
