Given the nature of the Saudi oligarchy and their role as the center of the world's most influential cartel, it might seem strange that a leader who talks non-stop of free markets and God's gift of freedom would hold them so dear and so near.

If you had followed us from "early days," you would know I go off on rants about the House of Saud with regularity. I don't think that Bush has any illusions about them, anymore than Clinton did. They "smile and smile and be a villain," as the Bard would say.

They buy off State Department members with cushy NGO positions when they retire, fund hate in our Universities by backing ME departments, and fund a "fifth column" in this country by controlling the appointment of Clerics to Mosques, our prisons and the Military.

The "giant sucking sound" I would love to hear is their oil being controlled by someone else. The only choice I can see is the Shiites in eastern SA, and that could be a fryingpan/fire solution.
