I have long thought that IBM will "get out" of the semiconductor manufacturing business.
If IBM is to become a service and software company (potentially high margin businesses), it may make sense to leave to others the costly business of building ever-more-expensive fabs.
I would be interested to see thoughts from other techies.

Yes, I hate to see the IBM Yorktown Heights, Bell Labs Murray Hill, and the old Sarnoff Research facilities disappear. These were national treasures, and their loss will cost us dearly in the long run.
