So I pulled out my cheap pocket dosimeter and discussed how it worked, how radiation would knock charge off the plate and make the needle move etc. I showed him that, at least since I had charged it, there had been no perceptible radiation present.

We both know three mile island was a "boogyman" scare. I love the bit of asking people, "would you rather hold a rock with a radiation half/life of one week or one thousand years?" They usually go for the "one week" one.

Look at the ban on irradiating food. It would wipe out most of the food poisoning in this country, but the nuts have made people afraid of it.
