I think he probably did have permission to attend the funeral. He didn't try to keep it secret; but then of course he's never really tried to keep anything secret. That being the case, lol, he should have asked the board whether this latest venture was a Good Idea. We'd have set him straight.

I just don't get it. Was he so upset by Helvenston's death that he went bonkers? This was a plan guaranteed to fail.

As he was actually trying to board a flight home, it seems obvious he was not trying to flee.

Not necessarily. In San Diego he had to wear his ankle bracelet, and I don't doubt People were keeping an eye on him now and then. But he wouldn't have been returning as himself. Even so, it would have been a very dumb idea. Hell, if he wanted to do a flit, why didn't he just rent a boat and take off when he was in Florida? He could have been on some Caribbean island in no time.

One way or another, I'm sure that the "explanation", if we ever hear one, is gonna be a lulu.
