Yanzhou Coal Mining Co and other Chinese coalminers may raise prices 66 per cent for Japanese utilities as China cuts exports to meet domestic needs, Japan's third-largest power company, Chubu Electric Power Co, has said.

Japan's utilities might agree to pay about $US48 a tonne for China coal, said Chubu Electric spokesman Makoto Fujimori. The utilities last year paid an average $US29 a tonne, said industry newsletter Tex Report.

Yang Lieke, president of China Coal Import & Export Co, which ships coal from Yanzhou and six other miners, was due in Tokyo for supply talks on Japan's fiscal year that began on April 1.
