"This is 2004. No nation is disputing Israel's right to exist"
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Hamas and Hezbollah (sp?) are committed to Israel's destruction. They are not nations, but they represent the Palestinians.
Hezbollah is a Lebanese political party and Hamas does not represent the Palestinians, the PLO does. At one time, Hezbollah was a terrorist group, and some say they still are.........they were responsible for pushing the Israelis out of Lebanon. Then was when Sharon looked the other way and Lebanese Christians massacred hundreds of Palestinians in a Palestinian refugee camp outside Beirut.
"However, Israel is disputing Palestine's right to exist"
I believe they made an offer during Clinton's term (rejected by arafat), and I also beleive that they have bought on to the "road map".
Shortly after a right wing Israeli assassinated Rabin, the Likud party came into power and reversed the peace plan developed under Clinton, Rabin and Arafat. In the late 90s, the Labour party gained control again and started to move back to that peace plan when they lost power again. The Likud regained control and that's when the current Jihad began. The Likud has very little interest in developing a reasonable peace plan with the Palestinians.
But that can't get going because the Palestinians are lead by men committed to murdering innocents. They will NEVER win with that strategy, nor do they deserve to.
Look........which comes first, the chicken or the egg? The Israelis have had over ten years of screwing around with this peace plan. Part of the problem is that they are a democracy and the other part is that their population is of two minds over this issue........much like we are over Iraq.
As for the Likud, they have no interest in letting a Palestinian state develop in spite of what Sharon says. They like the status quo.
Until Americans get this fact......not Bush.....he already knows it....but rather, the average American........they will understand what $h*ts the Israelis have turned into.
"Palestinians turned to Hamas because playing it smart or right was getting them no where"
You'll have to provide examples of them "playing it smart". I haven't seen that.
What happened to the Oslo Accord........agreed to by Rabin, Arafat and Clinton?
"So you're saying that because Israel got attacked by Syria or Egypt in 1967..."
And Jordan I believe. With the Palestinians clearing the way. That must have been humiliating to the Arab world.
How could the Palestinians clear the way.......they were refugee camps......they have been since 1948?
"that justifies them building new towns on land that was supposed to be for Palestinians"
Yes. Makes sense to me. Have a physical presence in the buffer zone. Otherwise, what stops them from doing it again? Aside from the probability of getting humiliated again.
So now, the West Bank is not the home to be of the Palestinians but a buffer zone for the Israelis. I ain't buying it.....why should the Palestinians?
BTW what happens to the all the water under the West Bank.........does that become the Israelis as well? |
