The congress is controlled by rightwing Republicans.
democrats hardly get a say in anything these days unless moderate Republicans join with them. Fortunately that is happening more and more. Cheney-Bush's energy bill was the most pork-filled ripoff bill in history. The 87 billion war bill was also very suspect. Billions to Halliburton and who knows where else we'll never know about.
