A true felon should NEVER have the right to vote - EVER!

The new study finds that approximately 471,000 people are now eligible to vote in the most heavily affected states and indicates a strong movement nationally toward reform of these laws.
The states that have repealed or scaled back their disenfranchisement laws include Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Virginia and Wyoming, the Sentencing Project's study said. It added that in seven of these states, new legislation removes or eases voting barriers for people who have completed their sentence, and in Connecticut, the new legislation expands voting rights to people currently on probation.
During the same time period, the Sentencing Project found that three other states passed laws restricting voting rights.
''Currently, felons in prison cannot vote in 48 states (excluding Maine and Vermont), while 33 states also disenfranchise felons on probation and/or parole, and in 13 states, including Tennessee, a felony conviction can result in the loss of voting rights after completion of sentence, generally for life,'' the Sentencing Project reported. |
