Jordan annexed that territory and would probably be ruling it today, had it not been King Hussein's foolish aggression in 1967.
I don't believe that's correct, Hawk. Jordan occupied the territory, but only England recognized the annexation. The rest of the world regarded the territory as stateless and occupied.
Dayan probably had the right idea at that time.. annex the territory and kick the Palestinians out as an unmanageable enemy population
Wha?! Dayan was a dove. He did everything not to drive out the Arabs, to reassure them they could stay (about 300,000 left anyway in 1967). I don't know who you're thinking of, but it's not Dayan.
But Israel definitely had the right to occupy and annex the West Bank after being attacked by Jordan... They should have done so.
Too many Arabs, even back then. So they just annexed East Jerusalem and tried to arrange a land for peace deal. They got the three No's of the Khartoum conference.
And there is going to come a time when they guys are going to get lucky and make both Israel and the US regret the day we fueled the fires of Islamic militancy by taking sides...
As opposed to its 'unfueled' state of the last 20 years? Look, whenever two sides build up to conflict in the history of the world, there are going to be people saying, 'but gosh, if you fight, you'll just make them mad'. Well yes, you will make them mad, but conflicts have deep causes, and take a long time to build, and Israel is really the red herring for most of our conflict with the Arab world. OBL's grievance was US troops in Saudi Arabia, remember, which were there to protect the Kingdom against Saddam. After conflicts build long enough, they usually break into the open; once that happens, it's pretty useless to try to act soothing; you should worry about victory instead. You may be right that the terrorists will make the US regret; but if that happens, I don't need to be a prophet to say that the Arabs will regret more. Arab societies have never really fought modern wars and don't know what they entail. We do. |
