Kerry bids to regain momentum with new ad blitz
news.yahoo.com

WASHINGTON (AFP) - Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry (news - web sites) launched a major television ad campaign as he sought to reignite his drive for the White House and slow down a surging President George W. Bush (news - web sites).

Campaign officials unveiled two 30-second spots they were airing in 17 "battleground" states in the November 2 election, calling it their mostly expensive media buy so far. They would not specify the cost.

Both ads show close-ups of the Massachusetts senator talking directly into the camera. In one he speaks of homeland security, jobs, education and health care; the other focuses on his plan to bring in more international help for Iraq (news - web sites).

Campaign manager Mary Beth Cahill told reporters the spots would be "the first two in what will be a series of ads (to) emphasize John Kerry's clear strategy to win the peace in Iraq and his plan to rebuild America."
