three experiences with small trucks since 1986

Ford Ranger:
owned it 18 months
in the repair shop 6 times
problems too numerous to specify
fuel intake was nasty problem
master cylinder problem with brake system
etc etc etc etc
engine trouble resulted in its failure and sale

Toyota pickup:
owned it 7 years, bought used
one minor repair
a frozen windshield washer bottle
my mistake for adding pure water in winter (oops)
no other mechanical failures, not one, zero
sold it after 160k miles with zero problems

Nissan pickup:
owned it 6 years, bought used
zero repairs
no mechanical problems, not one, zero
sold it after 130k miles with zero problems

I first turned to Japanese little trucks after a good friend in Boston area gave up his smaller Chevy truck in favor of a Toyota pickup
he talked me into buying my own Toyota pickup truck
great experience

US little trucks are garbage
my father is a loyal GM car buyer
I drive his car when we go out to dinner, or parties
very often coughs and struggles when engine not warm
more than his share of problems, but loyal as I said
he goes back for me every 3-4 years, with horrendous depreciation

now, I got a Beemr 3 series, bought used
owned it for 4 years
not a single mechanical problem, not one, zero

there are reasons why US car makers lose market share every year
their cars suck
a common reason why I hear owners continue to buy them
"cheaper car parts for repairs"
my reply: "why should you need all those repairs?"
