You are confusing two different interviews that Kerry gave. When he talked about "atrocities" in the one interview, he was speaking of being involved in "free fire" zones, and other activities ordered by those higher in the chain of command. He felt these were atrocities. He now says his comments were "over the top", but honest in content. I've heard his comments, and I agree.

When Kerry spoke about the other specific crimes, he was talking about what other soldiers told him happened. He was not saying he was involved and there is no evidence that he was involved. Still, Kerry did not blame the soldiers; Kerry blamed the leaders of America (I agree).

I applaud Kerry for serving our country in uniform and afterwards helping to bring attention to the absurdities of the Vietnam war. Kerry will be a fine President.
