Hm, What do I miss most about Austria!
Well, first you have to know that Austria and Vienna are 2 distinct entities.
What I remember most from Austria are the Alps , Alms, hiking up in the first daylight, over dewy grass , smell of Fir tree,in winter heavy laden with snow Fir trees ,small Villages with steep church roofs__ smell of firewood, smoked bacon ( geraucherter Speck) and warm cow dung!
Vienna being a city _is all different , I smell Goulash and "Schweinsbraten", from the many Corner "Beisels" ( Restaurants) Coffee and Strudel in the countless Coffee houses), served in Porcelain and silver cutlery, with daily Newspapers,"Class and Style", a bit snobby , you got to be seen in your "finest"!
I think I miss most the many little places Viennese go evenings or late afternoon to drink "Heurigen" young Wine, from the surrounding Vienna Woods, and the "schmaltzige",melancholic Music!
I bet the more I think about it, the more will come to mind and make me terrible homesick, so, I better stop, right here!
