War is a barbaric encounter that can bring out bizarre behavior in the best of men.

I don't have alot of patience with people who question war atrocities because I have heard so many outrageous stories myself and flatly do not support war because of it. All of the stories I have heard were undocumented because they came from the mouths of people who witnessed them or were involved. The only proof of truth was that the stories were told many times in the same way.

My ex-husband came back from Vietnam a mental wreck. He spent six months in a Navy mental hospital on Long Island. Even after that time, when he returned home he would wake up in the middle of the night and sit up quickly as if to look around for something. A couple times he even put his hands on my throat like an automatic response as he woke up.

I divorced the guy years ago as I could not play psychiatrist to a man that never got over his experiences from that war. Of course there were many other problems but the war experiences forever changed him into someone who was quite calloused. He claimed that he didn't tell me the worst of the stories so I can only imagine what he meant.

SO you need proof that those atrocities really happened? I have seen what those deeds can do to a man so I don't need any proof. I have heard many stories about things that happened ....... rapes , the war games using prisoners for bait, target practice using POW's, the blowing up of bamboo whorehouses to take revenge for some crazy deed ( the women may have entertained "John's that were suspect Cong so they torched the huts even if kids were living there).

Ten year old kids were suspect enemies and were sometimes killed. My husband's barber was killed one night while trying to blow up his barracks. It was impossible to know who was enemy and who was foe because most were both.To survive it was necessary for many men to forget their upbringing and turn into an animal.

The movie, Apocalypse Now, with Marlin Brando was accurate. I remember Brando saying " The horror of it all" and thought that line was an accurate description of what was happening there.

I have heard men tell stories and laugh with each other about many atrocities in Vietnam and I have seen the affects on one man in particular. That's all the proof I need.
