THe Vietnam War was far more complex than most people realize. I was of the generation that got it handed to us. I was a Senior in high school when the first lottery draft was held. One kid in my class got the #1 pick. He laughed as he said he never won anything else in his whole life and he starts to win with the dam draft lottery.

During one cheerleading practice one gal got the word that her fiance was lost in combat and his entire unit had been wiped out.......I"ll never forget that.

This country will live in hell if another draft is begun. IT certainly seems like the administration is moving in that direction. Lt. Col. Karen Kwiatkowski, former Pentagon employee, claimed it's a slam dunk that it will be brought back if Bush wins in Nov.

People who are too young to have lived through Vietnam should go out and rent the movie, " Apocalypse Now". It would serve them well to better understand what all this fuss is about. I think it's hard for most people to understand what war is like unless they have been there or been close to someone who has been there. The jungle warfare in Vietnam was very different from WWII and the people of southeast Asia were different from the inhabitants of Europe. THe Vietnamese had to survive by being friendly with both sides of the conflict which made the whole affair much more confusing.

The book ," When Heaven and Earth Changed Places", is a book about the Vietnamese war that is excellent. It portrays how and why the Vietnamese families were split between the Viet Cong and the Southern armies. It's a short book but quite enlightening.
