Financial terms were not disclosed in the agreement. As reflected in a message by Capone in the announcement, this is an attempt of PTON to further focus on the Remote Access market through its OpenROUTE Networks subsidiary. IMO, this deal could simply be a give-away in an attempt to cut expenses and further focus on the core remote access business while still taking care of the LAN customer base.

According to the IDC router market forecast (published in July), the low-end router market (where PTON is competing in) is the fastest growing segment of the remote access market. While the competition is severe, there are also many opportunities. It is in this low-end segment that router vendors could effectively compete against the Big three (i.e., Cisco, BAY and 3Coms). I think PTON is well positioned to compete in this market segment. To succeed, however, it must execute its strategy well - there is simply no more room (and time) for any more blunders.

I am still long on PTON but my faith is wearing thin.
