We are going to have a big help in figuring the Senate races from the rise of "one issue blogs." There are four of these in South Dakota, they are anti-Daschle, and have influenced the election there. "Daschle vs Thune" is the one that is most active, and the best so far.

I've not kept up with Senate races in any serious sense. Several of the Dem blogs do that and appear to do it very well. Best I can tell, the Dems think they are doing a bit better now than say two months ago but the last time I read them carefully, the variations across blogs were rather large. So I took them all with the proverbial grain of salt.

I wouldn't mind a November election in which the Dems gain control over the Senate but Daschle loses his seat.

The genuine surprise for me was Colorado. I didn't expect to see that seat up for grabs. With the Dems having a strong possibility for a pickup. Another surprise, and this a couple of months ago, the Dems were doing well in Oklahoma, in the campaign for Nickles seat.
