I was surfing the web with my VZ phone like crazy on the South Shore when I was there in Jan. I believe that Hawaii was one of the first places in the US to install CDMA 2000. I just assumed they had upgraded to 1X. The download times were almost as fast as my cable service at home. I was really impressed.
