Check cashing is a real racket, a step or two above Tony Soprano. You've got your illegal aliens, and your people who are ducking from the law or the ex, but then a lot of decent people with crummy credit. If you don't have good credit, a lot of banks don't want you.

For an honest company to get into that business and charge reasonable rates, I'd expect consumer groups to be singing hosannahs.
