Nice work Bill. I guess this rowback is about as tough &
hard hitting as we could expect from the NYT.

Something stinks here however. When you see how this story
has unfolded, it certainly raises my suspicions.

Kerry had always claimed he quit the VVAW earlier in the
year. When stories break that Kerry may have attended the
assassination meetings, his handlers try to strong-arm
those interviewed by reporters into changing their stories
& say that Kerry wasn't present. When these former VVAW
members refuse to change their story & then FBI files also
place him there, Kerry quits his adamant denials about
being present. Then he begins claiming no recollection of
an assassination plot. Meanwhile the FBI files also have
Kerry resigning on the 3rd day of these meetings.

The meeting to discuss & vote on the assassination plot
had been (allegedly) moved three times to assure it would
not be bugged. This plot had been developed to the point
of having a code name (The Phoenix Project). Only senior
VVAW members were in attendance at these meetings.

Kerry was one of the most senior members of the VVAW at
the time. Some members have specific recollections of loud
disputes involving Kerry & other members at the meetings
in Kansas City.

It is incredulous that anyone would attempt to deny any
recollection of their attendance at meetings to discuss &
vote on an assassination plot of US Senators. The sheer
implication of being even remotely associated with
something this radical & illegal would be indelibly
burned into any normal persons mind forever. Now think of
how it would reflect upon someone with grand political
aspirations.

When you look at the chronology of events, IMO, it is
highly unlikely that Kerry was completely oblivious to the
plot. It looks more & more like it has been a CYA
operation all along because Kerry knew about the
assassination plot & did nothing about it. Something which
would only be harmful to a political career if the truth
came out.
