A terrorist strike on the US prior to the election would not work to sway results. Voters would rally around Bush, if only to show the terrorists that we are not Spain and the terrorist agenda won't work in the United States.

Some of Bush's finest moments were in the days and months following 9/11, when he showed true leadership (I recall commenting to my wife it was a good thing Gore was not president at the time) and I have no doubt he'd continue to show the same leadership if we sustained a serious strike again.

Bad idea for Al Quaeda to try anything here.
