We are withdrawing our troops!?! GREAT, I must have missed that news!
Nobody who has any judgment whatseover is suggesting we should withdraw our troops at this point.
Security from themselves? Hell, we are the ones that need the security, and those Iraqi's that support us. Without us there, they can begin the process of self-determination, you remember, one of those conservative values, as opposed to the liberals that believe in nation building.
What, and give up the enormous progress that has been made so that a new terrorist state, worse than the one we just eliminated, can prosper?
This is what is wrong with the liberal dogma; there is simply no rationale or judgment involved. And frankly, it is the reason we can't tolerate putting liberals (like Madelyn Albright) in charge of foreign policy.
It's amazing that you or anyone can't see the damage. The dead and injured, the deficit, the reputation of the US as a benevolent super power, giving strength to the fundamentalist and to the terrorists and the marginalizion of international institutions that have helped bring relative peace to a generation. This was a mistake of epic proportions.
It is absurd to begin declaring it a mistake before it is over. Yes, we've suffered some painful losses. Yes, it has been expensive. But it is pretty clear that if we're successful in installing a democracy, it will reduce the threat of another 9/11. And there are other major benefits to the United States and to the region.
History will determine whether or not it was right. 10, 20, 30 years from now, we'll see what happened. In the meantime, it is encouraging to see that the American people have not succombed to the child-like belief that you can defend your freedom against tyranny without making a long-term commitment, one that lasts longer than the four-year term we give our presidents. |
