Now, see, you're focusing on the 19th century experience in Western North America.

What about the Native American experience from 1492 up until the Trail of Tears? That's about 350 years that go unmentioned. As does one entire continent (South America), one subcontinent (Central America) and the entire Caribbean.

Why?

Some historians hypothesize that once the Indians were vanquished, we felt comfortable romanticizing the ones which are left. That seems reasonable.
