Kerry and Bush could be more different in terms of 90% of their policy stances. If you expect or want Kerry to be a left-wing liberal, you'd only be handing the election to Cheney-Bush as moderates and moderates only will decide this election. There is a 45-45% tie now and those 10% in the middle are fairly conservative hybrid type swing-voters.

Kerry has never agreed with Bush's stance on Iraq. He voted for disarmament only as a last resort, and only with full UN and international coalition cooperation, plus a solidly prepared post-invasion plan. Now that we're in Iraq we cannot withdraw so Kerry is leading Bush back to the UN to internationalize the occupation. That is our best hope now of pacifying the situation.
