The Democrats can't see their problems. It's just what middle America thinks. As long as Democrats support abortion on demand with no qualifications and gay rights (gay is NOT a nationality), then they will NOT get the votes they need to defeat Bush.
This is not "closed minded claptrap." It IS the view of the MAJORITY of Americans. I did not say ALL, but if you think more Americans support abortion with NO RULES and gay marriage/rights, then you are living in a fantasy world. The Republicans are off on the environment (because of corp. ties) and going way overboard on terrorism and occupation in order to pass laws that give the government dictatorship powers, BUT it will all come to pass because Democrats can't see the will of the MAJORITY of the people. I can tell you that no matter how much a Republican voter or an Independent voter disagrees with the current Iraq, Patriot Act, corporate favoritism, and Greenspasm horrible economic policies, etc., if they have ANY religious or moral background, they will NEVER vote for a Democrat as long as their platform supports unlimited abortion and gay rights. You may be gay(I don't know) and simply dismiss this because it offends you. But it is true, and Bush will win unless something changes. IF the Democrats would come out and modify their position on abortion so that there were at least SOME rules so the perception in middle America was not that abortion is always just a form of birth control for the undisciplined and overly-sexed, and modify their gay rights position to not allow abuse of people but not give the impression that being gay is EQUAL to being black or being Catholic or being blind, they could take the election.
All I can say is, I am shocked at some of the things going on right now in the name of "the war on terror", yet I will NOT vote for Kerry simply because the Democratic party stands in direct opposition to my moral beliefs, and whether you or anyone else likes or even believes that to be the case, the election cannot be won with only NY, California, and Boston. You have to have "Middle America" at least partially.
If the Democratic party would develop some morals in these areas (morals as defined by middle America), they would get a huge crossover vote, and they would not lose many Democratic voters. There are almost as many women who take a more moderate view of abortion (somewhere between "never" and "on-demand"), and the hard-core gay population is not enough percentage to swing a vote. FWIW
I remain,
