I think naming a "drop dead" date, like December 31, 2005, on which we will pull all of our troops out of Iraq except those working in concert with international organizations, would be helpful. It would make the Iraqis understand that they are really going to have to govern themselves, and provide a spur for other nations to take a hand in things. No reason why anyone should cooperate with us when our ultimate intentions are unknown. [edit: the current situation reminds me of the scene in Princess Bride when Inigo Montoya says to the Man In Black: "Would you take my word as a Spaniard?" and the Man In Black responds: "No good, I've known too many Spaniards."]
