TH: as I am not in Japan right now i cant say for certain. I have many Japanese friends and family who are supportive of the actins of such volunteerism and working for just causes. That is not to say that this isnt still seen at the fringes of Japanese scociety.
The ultrarightists (militarists) would be the group most likely to cause this kind of public furor and make such outrageaous statements: most Japanese rightly regard them as scary nuts....
