Just to clarify, I did not live in Japan for 7 years, but only would visit for business. The Japanese company I worked for was based in North American and Canada.

I was just curious as to what you thought the motivation might be. The story did not surprise me in the least.

I really enjoy Japanese people, but there are things their culture allows that are quite outside the norm from the Western perspective.
