I also believe the US sponsorship of the Taliban and Osama bin laden was a crime against the Afghan people.

Sarmad.. would you care to back that statement up with a credible source?

The US DID NOT back either the Taliban or Osama Bin Laden..

The Pakistanis, and Saudis, did...

The US participation in Afghanistan was "by proxy", mainly assisting ISI to conduct the insurgency against the Soviets.

Once the Soviets left, so did the US funding..

In fact, US policy was effectively "hands off" with regard to Afghanistan in the civil war that erupted after the Soviet withdrawal. We left it to the Pakistanis to determine the status of their "back yard".

And tens of thousands died as a result, as the attention of our foreign policy turned elsewhere, including Saddam's invasion of Kuwait.
