Hawk:
I think Clark does an excellent job when discussing the internal workings of the intelligence agencies, their defiencies and what might be done about them
It is when he gets into the field of foreign policy and our standing in the Arab world that he gets a bit ragged and off the ball.

For example, I have never been able to picture why our relationships with any other Arab Nation would be expected to improve as result of our invading Iraq.

It does remove a threat to Iran, SA, and Kuwait from Saddam, but that is countered by a perhaps unpleasant increased US presense in the neighborhood.

It was hoped the Iraqi attitudes would improve and it apparently has, since they have not asked us to leave yet.

As far as the attitude of other Arabs it is not a primary goal to make improvements at this critical time unless they interfere with Iraqs new government.

Certainly Turkey and Saudi Arabia are helping in the war on terror by taking better care of their own assets and sharing information on perceieved threats. They dont have to wuv us more as Bilow may say it.

It is up to Powell to create understanding of our policies and try to improve working relationships. I dont think Clarke is quite the man for that job.
