JM I could listen to the sound of a (Merlin) Rolls Royce engine for hours = P51 and not get tired of it.Amazing you were talking war birds as I was looking for that Merlin sound effect just before logging in here!200 would go nuts in the air (airport junky)- what's the old saying - "there are old pilots and there are bold pilots but there are no old bold pilots" but I did know one my flight instructor.I used to fly to work ever day,man the tales I could tell ya!My instructor an old WWII fighter pilot used to say when I'd leave in soup "its not a question you might plaster your guts across a forest somewhere,its just a question of when"!
And this guy was a wild man-he used to fly a couple of feet off the ground inverted down the run way in his Stutts Bearcat,he used to scare the livin sh@t out of me at times, oneday he was giving me some log time in a twin he owned and flew it straight threw some trees,lol!I say trees he said leaves but I pissed in my jeans while he gave one of those insane laughs you hear in horror movies.We went up one day to practice stalls and he says bs you know the stalls - you need spin recovery's = of sh@t!He grabs the yoke pulls us into a stall and stomps the right foot pedal - the plane goes ape - I tried to slug his ass but I'm too busy freakin out!When we get down a friend comes up and asked did the stall warning horn go off?Pete (instructor) says hell if I know he was screaming so load if it did I never heard it!Man the days I had back then in(Dothan Alabama).
