U.S. Home & Garden's Ionatron Subsidiary Announces Plans to move to The Stennis Space Center in Southern Mississippi
TUCSON, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 26, 2004--Ionatron Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of U.S. Home & Garden Inc. (OTCBB: USHG.OB), today announced that it is negotiating to relocate to the Stennis Space Center located on the Gulf Coast in Mississippi. President & CEO Thomas Dearmin stated, "The move to the federally owned 150,000 acre secure facility, co-located with other government operations, such as NASA and the Navy Seals, offers Ionatron the perimeter security, unencumbered test ranges, and room for expansion for our continued development and production of Ionatron next generation controlled energy technology."
The Stennis facility has an existing mothballed Army Ammunition Manufacturing plant that was decommissioned in 1990 and currently has approximately 600,000 square feet of space that could be upgraded to accommodate Ionatron's manufacturing requirements. Ionatron is in the process of finalizing the details in order to initially utilize over 100,000 square feet, with the option to expand into the remaining space on an as needed basis. It is anticipated that by year-end, Ionatron will have started operations at the Stennis Space facility and transitioned out of its current location.
Mr. Dearmin added, "during our recent visits to the Stennis facility and surrounding Gulf Coast area, it became clear to us that the federal, State, and local agencies have all come together to ensure Ionatron both a successful move and production start up at the Stennis Center. Ionatron anticipates the need for up to 300 employees by the end of 2005, and more in the following years, providing a long-term source of high tech positions for South Mississippi."
"I am pleased about Ionatron's interest in moving to Mississippi," stated Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour. "Mississippi has much to offer to a growing company like Ionatron, and we are excited about the prospect of having this high-tech company move to our state."
The Stennis location on the Gulf Coast, with its existing canal system, offering easy access to the Gulf, and the Stennis airport facilities, make it ideal for access and delivery of customer platforms and prototypes. This facility also allows us to locate in a single factory our research, development, and manufacturing, as well as the final testing of systems for delivery to US Government customers.
The Ionatron technology has numerous applications desired by all branches of the U.S. Military and is adaptable to many commercial security and law enforcement areas. The Stennis facility offers the space desired to setup separate production lines for the various Government customers and commercial products. Each application requires slight variations and modifications based on the platform and intended mission, and that can be accomplished at the Stennis location.
