In general the Islamic treatment of creatures (God's creations) is one of compassion. The Islamic view is that as human beings we have responibility for the well being of every creature within our sphere of influence. Animals, plants, other human beings and the healthy conditions of the Earth, all have rights over me and I have the responsibility to care for their well being.

I am not speaking for the behavior or views of individual Arab leaders or of uneducated or agendized members of political groups (which I grant is quite corrupt) but simply the doctrine of the Quran and Islamic perspective.

Although human disagreements over what is a just course of action may lead to acts of violent war, Islam has conditions for how a Muslim is to proceed. Innocent humans cannot be targeted as an act of war. So, terrorism is a violation, or killing hostages. The corrupt get around this by declaring anyone supportive of their enemy a military collaborator... When Saddam spilled oil in the Persian Gulf to polute it for the Iraqis, he clearly was sinning against his soul.

I hope this helps clear things up. Not that Middle Eastern govts or groups are likely to model the right form of Islam for us, unfortunately.
