My fundamental objections to all the objections on this thread:

Most of Corel's near term revenues are going to come from WordPerfect Suite 8. That is not affected at all by this Java/Office/Remangen stuff. The main near-term question is simply how well this Suite is selling.

The argument that "this work on Java is taking away energy from work on Windows stuff" is not backed up. What precisely, are they not doing with their Windows products as a result of putting a bunch of people on Java? Are there any critical marketing issues that they are not addressing correctly? Do they not have enough programmers writing Windows apps? Corel is a big company. Unless I hear from people working at Corel that this or that Windows project is being dropped because of Java, I will assume that they have the manpower to do everything they say they are doing.

As long as Java stuff is not near term, then what we are getting is a view into the early stages of development in Corel. I like that openness. Putting out Office for Java resulted in feedback for Corel that Microsoft and Lotus have not gotten.

In toto, what I think we are seeing is a company which is testing out a bunch of different things at once to get information on where this field is going. Nothing wrong with that.
