The "Attack Machine"

As a charter member of the "Lying and Crooked" "Republican Attack Machine," I have to respond to John Kerry's contention that we brought up his medal-throwing lies.

Note the following:

1. Kerry brings up Vietnam at every campaign stop.

2. ABC News dug up the video. No one would argue that ABC News is a partisan Republican organization.

3. In the video, Kerry could have avoided any confusion by mentioning that he'd thrown away someone else's medals. Or even mentioning that he'd only thrown away his ribbons. Instead, Kerry used the most misleading language he could have.

4. Democrats constantly refer to Kerry's "chestful of medals" on the campaign trail.

5. Kerry proudly displays his medals in his Senate office.

6. In a 1985 interview with the Boston Globe, Kerry justified keeping his medals, saying, "I did not want to throw my medals away."

The issue isn't what Kerry did 33 years ago. It's what
he's done since then: displaying his medals, running for
president as a veteran with a "chestful of medals" and
shamelessly exploiting his four-month tour of duty at
campaign stops from Mississippi (which reminded him of the
terrain in Vietnam) to Hawaii (where he felt nostalgic
about having stopped off before going to Vietnam.)

Whether he threw away medals, ribbons, or someone else's
medals, this latest episode only confirms the emerging
image of Kerry as a slimy politician who will parse words
endlessly, rather than admitting that he owns an SUV.

The "Republican Attack Machine" did not bring up the medal
issue and we didn't claim anything about Kerry's SUVs.
Kerry brought up the medal issue, just like he brought up
the SUV issue. And the liberal media exposed him as the
pathological liar that he is.
